2012 NCAA Awards

It can be tricky to pick awards in College Basketball.  There are so many variables, but every year a committee from each conference and for the nation does its best to pick the right players for the right awards.  Seeing as how these lowly committees can accomplish the feat, I certainly can do my best as well.  However, I will probably pick players far away from the norm (sometimes) and so I will have two sections: Who will probably win the award, and who I think should win the Award.

2012 NCAA Awards

Who Will Win

Who Should Win

Player of the Year

Thomas Robinson, F Kansas

Draymond Green, F Michigan State

Thomas Robinson has no doubt done a lot for the Jayhawks, but no other player can match the statistical marks to go along with the individual importance of Green.  Tom Izzo’s Spartans would be bottom feeders minus Green.

Defensive Player

Anthony Davis, C Kentucky

Anthony Davis, C Kentucky

No one strikes fear into a driver the way Davis has.  Despite his unibrow, Davis gets the nod for his record setting year in blocked shots.

Freshman of the Year

Anthony Davis, C Kentucky

Anthony Collins, G South Florida

Davis has the big name and the big stats, but Anthony Collins has been his team’s best player all year.  He has made South Florida into a dancing team and has been one of the Big East’s best players late in the season

.

Coach of the Year

Tom Izzo, Michigan State

Tom Izzo, Michigan State

Michigan State was unranked after back-to-back losses to begin 2011-2012, since the Spartans are 24-3 and Tom Izzo has had his finest year getting the most out of the least talent; the trademark of a coach of the year.
